This will be my last post on this particular topic as I have already agreed to disagree with you on religious subject matter.
When I was a spring chicken like yourself I was also very judgemental. But over time I have gained some spiritual maturity and have learned, and am still learning, not to be that way. It does take time and hopefully it will happen for you.
As usual, I am at work and don't have a Bible with me so I will have to paraphrase. I am sure you know the story of the woman that was caught in the act of adultery and brought to Jesus to be punished. What did Jesus say to the people that busted her? And more importantly, what did Jesus say to her? Did he take that opportunity to remind her of all of her wrongdoings? Did he start preaching or ministering to her right then and there? Did he tell her that she would be punished for her actions on Judgement Day?
If memory serves me correctly I believe he told her go and sin no more. Point blank. End of story. No big lecture. No song and dance. That's the bottom line.
If you believe that beating people over the head with the dos and don'ts of Christianity is Christ-like, then by all means, knock yourself out. In the above example, Jesus didn't do that, so neither will I. If you think that is "sugarcoating the Word", all I can say to that is you are entitled to your own opinion.
Stay blessed.
