Grrr...
A couple of weeks ago, I got a call asking if this was the Smith residence (the name has been changed to protect the innocent

but it was a fairly common last name.) I said no, you have the wrong number. Instead of apologizing and hanging up, the guy then said "Well, whose residence have I reached?" Me: "I don't give out personal information over the phone." (Meaning, unless I place the call or know the caller.) Him: "Well, what number have I reached?" Me: "What number did you dial?" He reads my phone number back to me digit for digit. So I said, "That is the right number, but there's no one here by that name. Please don't call here again" and hung up. (Rude? Maybe, but I was in the middle of dinner.)
As always, I came up with the perfect retort
after I hung up: "Listen, I'm sorry if the chick you picked up at the bar last night didn't want to give you her real number, but THIS ISN'T IT!"
