I would have liked it because it came from his heart and it shows that not only he loves me but he wants me to share part of his family with him.
On the otherhand, if it is REALLY horrendous, then the ring should be given as a wedding gift and ANOTHER ring as the engagement ring.
As a wedding gift, it can be used as the "Something Old".
