I have stick-straight, long, dark hair.
I was forced to have a bowl cut as a young child. That should be a punishment reserved for the ninth level of hell. This was in the '70s when EVERY woman and girl had long hair... except me

At long last I was able to convince my mother that I did not look cute with short hair, and so I was allowed to let it grow.
When I was in high school, I had my hair permed. It didn't look good on me, especially during those first few days when you're not allowed to wash your hair - it looked like I had little curly wires coming out of my scalp.
My hair ignores curling irons to the point where I've long since given up even trying. So I've learned to live with my hair the way it is - usually back in a ponytail or up in a bun.
