...everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
I've been a fan ever since jr. high or so (around 10-15 years) and have supported them consistently through changes in band membership, standing up for their rights as professional musicians to be compensated for their work (for which they have to pay to record and produce), explorations of self-expression (ahem, Load and Reload, S&M, etc.), and every other thing they've done. I've also seen them in concert at Lollapalooza '96 (also one of the last performances of both the Ramones and Soundgarden), December '96 with Korn, and Summer Sanitarium 2000 with Kid Rock and others, in addition to being a member of their fan club for a while (hey, college is a lot more expensive than high school, give me a break). I can't wait to see them in concert again and I'll be waiting for the stores to open on June 10th to buy a copy of their newest album. As far as I'm concerned, Metallica are the gods of all metal and rock and roll!
Some former fans may think they've sold out, some current fans question the conviction of former fans. But you know what? If you don't like them, then don't listen to them. It's that simple. There's no need to spread hate about something or someone you don't like or agree with. As for me... I'm proud to have been a loyal fan of Metallica for the last almost 15 years and quite frankly don't give a damn if anyone else agrees with me. Interesting how Metallica themselves have the same attitude. That's probably one of the reasons I can't get enough!
...oh, and if anyone considering posting a reply is more in agreement with Betarulz!, kindly refrain from starting a flame war about what you do or don't like about Metallica (esp. their civil actions against certain companies, etc.). The purpose of my thread is to show my gratitude for (in my personal opinion) the greatest band of all time. Your opinion may differ; that's ok. Just don't feel compelled to spread hate to get your point across - Greeks should be above that, ya know?
Peace brother.
