i'm from north mississippi and we've had horrible weather all day. i'm a disaster responder for the american red cross and i sat in first period this morning WAITING on someone to call me because we had 3 reports of tornadoes (3 different tornadoes) in my VERY SMALL county. one actually touched down in the county and knocked down many phone and light poles and hit some of the hospital. an hour north of here a rather larger city was destroyed. in downtown jackson,tn all that was left standing was some of a federal building and the courthouse. if any of you are from tennessee or mississippi...you know what i'm talking about. one of the F4s completely leveled a 2 story house and attatched garage of my dad's. he doesnt live in it. he just uses it as a rental house. the city is destroyed and there is a possibility of more storms tonight. i'll most likely be driving up there tomorrow to help out if the weather here is okay. if not i'll be here searching for victims. i guess since this is greek chat i could tell you that i did hear...this is just hear say but i did hear that lambuth and union university had damages to sorority and fraternity houses. the universities are cancelling all classes until further notice and that is a fact. if anyone knows anymore about the damage to the houses on campus...let me know. i'm going to try to get into the city tomorrow but today there was no way into town. those in town were stranded and those trying to get to town were kept out. there was just no way in or out. yall not only remember the victims and the homeless tonight but remember our search and rescue teams and first responders as we work through the nite to save more lives. so far in jackson alone there were 11 reported deaths (may have risen since i've heard the news this afternoon) and 66-70 injured.
