OK...from someone who is NOT an Alabama fan but watched the live coverage of the press conference held by the UA president, Board of Trustees, and Mike Price yesterday....
The UA pres. stated that the reason for firing Mike Price was a violation of the University Code of Conduct. He said that it is a privelege to be selected for a position of leadership in the University and that Price's behaviors were not in line with the Code of the University. Being a leader for UA doesn't just mean being a leader on the field, but being a leader and representing the University at all times.
While his decision will definitely adversely effect the Tide for this season I think it is definitely better in the long run. I personally applaud the UA president for making the decision he did...not because of the moral implications neccessarily---I don't care WHAT Mike Price does privately but the minute he uses the UA credit card it becomes University business...but because he stood by the RULES and policies set forth in the University Code. Several players, fans, boosters, etc. made pleas to the Board of Trustees at the press conference and it would have been very easy to cave to them. The UA president has only been around for a few months and he was hired to "clean up" things that were going on at UA. He's doing his job....good for him. 2 out of the last 3 UA coaches have had some sexual scandal....it's definitely time to get that crap out of Tuscaloosa.
