I too live in SC and I am all for the lottery. In this area there are a lot politicians working hard and spending money on a campaign to prevent the lottery from becoming a reality here. I feel like the lottery in Georgia has done a lot for education there and (not to offend any teachers on the site, but)SC could use some of that funding. I keep hearing people moaning about how the lottery will target people who are least able to afford to play. What did video poker do? I personally know of people who were hurt by it. I can't see the lottery affecting people the same way. I never put one cent into a video poker machine, but I can see myself buying lottery tickets. I haven't had to meet the requirements of the "Back to School" list yet, but many of my co-workers have. Year after year the lists get longer and longer. When I was in elementary school I don't recall having to buy all of this stuff, it was provided by the school. My child is only 3 and I hope by the time she enters school that SC will have a lottery in place that will fund education on all levels and allow our children to compete on even ground with children from states where education is taken more seriously.
