Hello everyone,
There is really a bad trend going on w/ rappers and hip hop artists today. It's like a vicious cycle. The people behind the artists are telling them that things like sex, money, bling-bling, etc is what sells and that's what the people want. Meanwhile, the public is looking at the artists like "hey, such and such has got a lot of bling-bling, so I gotta get that too" or "ooh she wearing those booty shorts, a little bikini top, etc, etc so I gotta look like that". In turn, the artists and the people behind them look at the public and say "Oh yeah, all the teenagers, young people, etc are wearing this, driving that, etc". When in actuality, the public is merely mimicking the artists out there. It's actually NOT what the public "wants", but what they see from the artist. See the cycle? It's confusing to explain. But it's silly that the artists and their people don't see what's going on. It's like at this point, the artists have SO much influence on young people now, it's ridiculous! I mean, lil Bow Wow for instance. If today's artists weren't swearing up a storm, rocking ice, etc, do you think he'd be doing it? Nope. But b/c they are, then what does lil Bow Wow do? He "rocks an iced out Mickey Mouse around his neck". For shame, for shame!
Then, have you all noticed the trend of shooting a video in a "ghetto"? What is that?! I can't stand that! It's like they think "oh we'll shoot this in da hood and the people will feel us cuz we in da hood". Um no. It's just another thing that artists and their peeps think appeal to people. I mean, look at how they've coined the term 'ghetto fabulous'. Now the public thinks it's tight to live fabulously in the ghetto. Um, if you have that much money to spend on a car (not just any car but a $50,000+ car)...then shouldn't you have the money to bring yourself OUT of the ghetto? Or at least try to? I'm not trying to be mean or disrespect anyone, but really now...is that really the smart thing to do? Is it really cool to live 'ghetto fabulous'? Seems a little backwards to me....but I digress.
Sorry this is long. I am a big music fan, esp of hip hop. But it's getting to the point where all people talk about is bling bling, ice, the car(s) they got, the women they slept with....ugh, it's just not cute. I'd honestly rather listen to someone like Christina Aguilera (whom I love!), Backstreet Boys and others like that cuz I can deal w/ them talking about love and stuff. I can relate to that. It may be a little cheezy, but at least I don't have to worry about them up in the video w/ platinum plated teeth and about 20 pounds of ice around their necks! I like the beats, but I can't relate to that! I don't have bling bling! I don't drive what they drive! Lord, what is the world coming to!
