I think several reasons: (1), they haven't won the cup in a LONG time (I think it is now the longest dry spell between titles, since Detroit (argghhhh) ended their drought in 1997). (2), they have such high expectations of their fans (which is noble) but always seem to find a way to fall short (though they did get rid of CuJo, so there is hope).
I would rather see an Avs-Leafs finals versus Avs-Ottowa. Of course, the Colorado boys have this nasty habit of taking every single playoff series since 2001's finals to seven games. That is getting very annoying, and they are really playing with fire when they do that.
