Growing up, I use to get teased for being underweight. Kids could be really cruel. It was mentioned on another thread that people tease skinny people because they're jealous. Nope. Not when you're under 16. They do it to be mean and it can really screw with your self-esteem just as being called overweight can affect someone's self-esteem.
It took me until college to finally put on weight. I would eat more than most of my guy friends and I was still "5'7" and 98 pounds. During my freshman year, my metabolism slowed down a bit. I am now 120 pounds. It's the first time in my life that I haven't had complete STRANGERS walk up to me and say, "Are you anorexic?" or have older people cluck their tongues and say, "These young girls who starve themselves..." I remember when I was 13 and I was in a department store with my mother when a woman came up to her and said, "Is your daughter ill?" It was so horrible and embarrassing....especially because there was nothing I could do about it.
People come in all different shapes and sizes. Metabolism is genetic. People who are overweight are told to work out and eat healthier but many will still remain overweight. It's not their fault; it's just the way they're made. Same with many underweight people. I think that if people were a little more sensitive they'd realize that many people who look like they have an "unhealthy" body really can't control it.
