I would say anyone born in the 1980s is a Gen Yer. But then, even the "experts" use different years - I saw a magazine that used one range to describe Gen X in one article and a different range of years in another article in the same issue!
I say (and this is not scientific in any way) - you're Gen X if you:
-Can remember any part of the 1970s
-Saw Heathers, Singles, and Pulp Fiction in the theater during their original releases
-Were old enough to wear grunge when it was in
-Were old enough to have big hair when it was in
-You owned records as a child
-Your dad faced the issue of serving in Vietnam
You're Gen Y if you:
-Have been using the Internet (and not a BBS) since junior high
-Have ever been a believer in "girl power!"
-Are in college now (not a returning student)
-Were into N'Sync and Backstreet Boys instead of NKOTB
-Can't remember when Fox was a cable channel
