Actually, the first GenXers were born in the 1960s, so many of us are pushing 40. I think I read one place that it was 1961-1981, but I'd say more 1965-1985. It's the generation right after the Baby Boomers. We never aspired to be yuppies, which is what the baby boomers exemplified.
And by the way, Generation X, by Douglas Coupland, was published in 1991.
