I don't see how people can equate the two. I think everybody is aware that slimness is valued over largeness in our culture, and when somebody makes fun of you because you're "too skinny," it's because they're jealous (unless you legitimately ARE unhealthily skinny, in which case they're probably worried about you) . . . it's not derisive like when somebody calls you "too fat." If you'd ever been fat, or even just "not skinny," or even just studied weight issues with any seriousness, you would realize the difference immediately. So it really annoys me when people say, "Making fun of me because I'm skinny is no different than making fun of somebody because they're fat." Because . . . it is completely different. The teasing may be the same, but the motive for the teasing is different. And the outcome is different. I've never heard of anybody wanting (or trying!) to kill themselves because people always tease them for being skinny. The worst that happens is that they get insecure about their bodies. Unfortunately, overweight girls who are teased a lot, especially in middle and early high school, are often suicidal.

In our culture, being fat is often equated with being worthless. This is NEVER the case with being skinny. Skinny is just . . . skinny.

If you want to make a "skinny people represent" thread somewhere on the board, go for it. There's nothing wrong with that, and there's nothing wrong with being skinnny . . . But come on, was it really appropriate to respond to this post with "I'm so skinny, and I hate it when people make fun of me"? I don't think so.
I see your point, and yes, non-skinny women are definitely picked on more as a whole than skinny women are. That doesn't make it any less offensive to hear people say things against women who *aren't* above a size 6, especially those of us who do not TRY to be that way! Honestly I don't think this entire topic is appropriate if you want to say our responses are inappropriate. And ya know what? I'm kinda jealous of you all who do have boobs and who do have a butt! HELLO, I'm Puerto Rican and I am sitting here wondering where my J-Lo ghetto booty is!!! Has anybody seen it???

Everybody just be happy with who you are, because ANY size can be beautiful! And there are a hell of a lot of guys out there who prefer women with meat on their bones!
