Yes, they have increased the number of classes offered. Just last night, there was a speaker but I was unable to attend. it sounded great. I went to chat with the Chancellor and he said that Governor Foster has given him a quarter of a million to increase security, call boxes, lighting, etc. (that number might be a little off, but i'm almost positive what he said) Also, they have purchased, well now they are leasing, but they will be buying three additional campus transit vans. the old ones were kinda ratty and they really needed new ones regardless. However, they are not being utilized as much as they should be. He said that the drivers are saying that when they are making their rounds they still see women walking alone. As for call boxes, they've added more and also put blinking blue lights on the top of all of them. They also urge students, faculty, etc. to report places around campus that are dimly lit. As for cameras, of course they wouldn't say where they are exactly but they're cameras around high traffic areas of campus. the captain of lsupd said that he wants to have every inch covered, whether it be by cameras or men. Also, they will have constant patrols of the campus, even during break. (And also the community nearby) Lately I have been seeing a lot of police officers around and I hadn't noticed it until very recently.
I feel that campus transit or LSUPD should be used whenever necessary. A girl that lives in ECA asked the capt. what she should do when coming in late at night because she has to walk over the bridge by herself. He told her to first find an policeman who is on patrol and flag him down and ask him to watch her to make sure she makes it in ok. He also said for her to call campus transit to pick her up if she can't find the cop on patrol. Last but most importantly, try to avoid being alone late at night if possible.
About Songfest- JAM- We were paired with Lambda Chi. Last year they did a little bit too much pre-partying before the performance. However, they knew that we were in it to win it and no drinking before allowed at all!!! We made them report to our house really early that morning. It wasn't at all amusing to me when they pretended to be sloppy drunk that morning. But all in all, they were fun and did what they needed to do. DeeGee was paired with Pi Kapp I think and they are usually very helpful. They did Homecoming with us last year. However, this years winners proved that it doesn't matter who you are paired with, it is how hard you work.
It was a great Songfest all around. However, in past years, I think that stunts have helped a lot and this year no stunts were allowed. At least no elaborate ones. However, this caused the performers to be even more creative in order to stand out. I would say that there was more competition than last year. There were many sororites that I feel would have placed except they did not utilize their guys as much and that is something that judges look for- or so it seems.
