See, I'm conservative in my personal life. However, I'm a registered democrat. I feel that both parties are not about the average Joe Blow and are owned by the lobbyists. But I chose to register as a democrat as the lesser of 2 evils.
You succintly described the reason why majority of Blacks are not republicans (and BTW I believe Colin Powell is more of a democrat than a republican - he is pro-choice and affirmative action).

I was talking to my mother a little while ago about politics. She said something that really summed things up for me. She said that most Black Americans are conservative in their viewpoints. We are a religious people that believes in the worth of family values and hold many traditionally conservative views. But, what we want, that Republicans fail to address (in my opinion), is equal opportunity and equal access.
If Republicans would concede to and initiate legislation that would improve our positions in this country, I think that most Black Americans would vote and support Republicans. There was a thread a while back where the majority of posters were expressing conservative views.
