Don't feel bad about misspelling 'identity'. Along the same vein...
Back in World War II, War Department identification cards (called AGO (for Adjutant General's Office) cards) had a peculiar misspelling on it that was never corrected until after the war: they spelled IDENTIFICATION as INDENTIFICATION. Some German spies had some false documents made up, including fake AGO cards. They were a little TOO perfect - the German forgers corrected the spelling, and the spies were caught.
