Re: House Corps. / Alumni Assoc.
I am President of our local Corporation Board, and am working to reorganize (or recharter) our local Alumnae Chapter. Both are completely separate entities in Alpha Omicron Pi. Our alumnae chapters are city or area-wide groups, where the Corp Board handles the chapter house operations and physical property ownership. We too are Incorporated with the state, have an official budget and officers, and are required to announce and hold an annual meeting like any other Corporation. We also have a third area where local alumnae can get involved, the Alumnae Advisory Committee, who works on a day-to-day basis with the local chapter and her officers. It is not a requirement to be an alumna of the local chapter to serve on CB or AAC. AOII does not have "XYZ Chapter Alumnae Associations" or anything like that.
The goal is to have a mutually supportive relationship between collegiate chapter, AAC, CB and the alumnae chapter. The CB does not provide social opportunities as a rule. The alumnae chapter itself is not usually involved with CB operation, but all members are welcome (and encouraged!) to join the CB and attend the annual meeting. The alumnae chapter is there to encourage continued involvement as an alumna, and provide opportunities to make new friendships and renew old ones. The alumnae chapter supports it's nearest collegiate chapter(s) in various ways, but do not oversee the house or property of any collegiate chapter it may work with.
You may want to check your National/International Governing Documents for information appropriate for your situation. There may be something that specifically outlines the duties and responsibilities of a House Corp Board and an Alumni Association for your GLO. Hope this helps!
