Well, I certainly didn't say that they were needed. I do understand that there are always volunteers--if you had read my post correctly, I mention that I have volunteered. There are simply a lot of problems that can arise with these old outdated lever machines. Does it seem right to you that one precinct can have nicer machines than an other--in a FEDERAL, not a LOCAL election? Call me a pinko lefty, but I think that the only way to prevent a debacle like this is to equalize voting procedures.
