First of all I would like to say that gaining entrance into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is a priveledge and not a right. It just seems to me that a lot of the young ladies who are aware of their legacy status seem to feel and at times demand that they are accepted into Alpha Kappa Alpha because their MOTHERS have worked hard to become members of this sorority. It always seems to me that the sentiment which many of these young ladies have is that of, my mother is an A.K.A. therefore I too deserve to become a member. This in my opinion is the wrong type of attitude or outlook to have on the situation. I feel that an interested party should be able to stand on their own two feet first before they start listing everybody in their family who is a member of A.K.A. in order to gain entrance. It appears that a lot of the young women use their legacy status as an easy method of gaining acceptance into the sorority. However, membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.is something that should be earned and one should not try to gain entry into this organization through the hard work and dedication of others.
