Urban Legend from London ...
"The Tower of London's most celebrated residents are the colony of nine ravens. It is not known when they first settled here, but there is a legend that should they desert the Tower, the kingdom will fall. In fact, the birds have their wings clipped on one side, making flight impossible."
A strange point of fact is that the only recorded time that there were no ravens at the Tower was in 1946. As this was just after World War II and England had come perilously close to falling maybe the legend carries some weight after all.
