Nothing goes in the cervix (except sperm, which are microscopic). The woman's body prepares for months...and the cervix dilates very very slowly over the course of the last few hours/days/weeks of pregnancy to allow the baby to come out. Right now, I'm completely amazed by the miracle of birth and am boggled that it could happen to me someday.
I've never had anything like that done, but we've been doing a lot of work with cervices (?) as of late, so I'm relatively familiar with your condition(s).
