As an addendum, even if you are poor as Joe's turkey (my granny used to say that!), put all of your important papers (life insurance policies, social security card, etc.) in a central location and let someone else know where they are!!! It is hard enough when a loved one dies, but to have to shift through mounds of paper, bills, check statements, etc. trying to see what insurance they had makes it worst!

Also, make sure your beneficaries are up to date. At my last employer a man died without changing his bene from his 1st wife to his 2nd wife. He and 1st wife had been divorced for over 10 years. When 2nd wife came to handle the paper work she found out that 1st wife was still on the policy! There was absolutely nothing anyone could do about it and from what I understand, 1st wife was not inclined to share.....
