I think student government is a big deal because the SG controls millions of dollars. SG funds hundreds of campus organizations and projects. If the Greeks control SG then Greeks will have a ton of power and influence on campus. If a university doesn't want to cooperate with Greeks then the Greeks that control the SG don't have to provide the the university with millions of dollars that the school needs for important projects. The IFC/NPC is building floats and the SG is helping to build libraries, athletic facilities, parking garages and student housing.
