I know what you mean!!!
We are not allowed either except for "official" reasons. I do check the local newspaper, and CNN headlines.
I can understand not being able to spend a lot of time on the web when you are supposed to be working..but what about all the time spent waiting for someone to get back to you -- either on the phone, email reply or walking over to your desk.
But I wish that we could be allowed to check our personal email, such as yahoo. Unfortunately, that could bring in spam/virsuses?/. But it is sooooo frustrating when I need to find out if I got a certain reply before I waste time going home or somewhere else and then find out I didn't have to..or if a decision has to be made during working hours.
It would be nice if we could check our emails say, 12-1 and right before we leave for the day.
Unfortunately, at my company, the policy will NEVER change.
