We've had really good luck/service with vTech cordless phone. They're reasonably priced and work pretty well. Great sound quality and battery life. The only downside is that they're a little clunky.

One caveat about the Panasonic phones: They have a terrible battery life. You can't leave them off the charger for too long before they start chirping that they're dying. My aunt has one (one of the 2.4 ghz models) that starts to die after about an hour - it kinda defeats the purpose of the cordless phone if you have to keep it on its charger all the time.
