It's a great song, but without the personality of Lloyd Dobbler, it wouldn't be as powerful, in my opinion. He's just such a honest character with a sort of childlike view of love that is trying so desperately to grow up.
(By the way, I mean childlike not in a derogatory way. I mean totally trusting and completely believing that anything is possible. Y'all do remember those days, right?
