I've had it happen before, and I must say that I find it enjoyable to control where the dream is going.
I've also had dreams that i've re-entered or brought back up at later dates. But it is very random as to when it happens...sometimes I'll try very hard to get back to a dream and never re-dream it.
The one thing I have learned, is how to prevent nightmares...just make sure your bladder is empty and that you aren't cold...often times that seems to be the case and by remedying the situation often prevents later nightmares that night.
