I have for the past several years... the only way to get your federal return filed electronically is through purchasing TurboTax or TaxCut. They take the filing fee directly from your refund, if you don't owe the 'Tax Gestapo' money
If you meet certain income levels based on family size and gross income, you may be able to file for free.
Some state taxing authorities are also allowing online filing of their tax returns directly from their website -- they've contracted with Quicken to do this. To encourage online filing they have been offering this service for free.
