Hoosier, this is a really good post - I think you get a bad rap for pointing out stuff that others would rather sweep under the rug.

I was pointing more toward the public outcry that ensues when you point this out - at times, we have trouble swallowing our own medicine, I think.

I asked him "why do you put so much bad news about TKE in your newsletter?"

"It makes the good stuff more believe-able" was his response.

And he's right.

I see lots of stuff from National GLOs - all full of great and good news about the fraternity: "the convention was unanimously cheered as the best ever, never have more dedicated national officers/staff been in place, our sweetheart loves everyone and personally built a habitat for humanity house which she paid for by operating a 25 cent lemonade stand during Greek Week, and we banned hazing in 1958."

But most of this is barely believable since it seems like every house they own is half-empty and dilapidated, three area chapters have closed, etc.

When everything coming from the Natl. office is sugar coated, it's not believeable. A little truthful bad news - perhaps accompanied by a plan for prevention or improvement - makes it more believeable.

Every GLO is afflicted by some weenie chapters, some hazers, some tragedies, etc. Sure, the big ones have more, but no one is immune. And here at GC, I can post anything I find about anybody - and only DU has offered $$ to keep their name off GC.
