Too bad it was a dull show this year. The Golden Globes has an open bar and it traditionally makes the audience a little... spunkier. People are a lot looser than at the Oscars and usually someone will do something ridiculous.
I agree, the Golden Globes seems to be geared towards movies and television shows that "push the envelope." I like to use it as a barometer for what is worth seeing. Who gets lots of nominations, who wins, etc. So now I know I have to see Chicago! I already saw Adaptation and knew it was good so it was cool to see them get nominations and two wins.
