Unfortunately, nowadays, REASONING falls on deaf ears. People only respond to things that involve money(i.e. lawsuits). I'm sure that this woman probably approached him many times asking for the vehicle and he probably just laugh her out of the office (since it was his idea of a joke).
Now, when the lawsuit pops up, he's all ready to listen, compromise, and settle.
WHATEVER!! Why couldn't he have done that in the first place?
