I think the worst thing I ever found in my food was a dead fly. But, I have 2 really gross stories about friends of mine:

(1) In the dining hall at college, I was having dinner with a few friends. One of my friends was eating soup (it was cream of mushroom or something similar) and made a horrible face before spitting out a THUMBTACK. We couldn't figure out how it could have possibly made it into his soup. There was a comment board in the dining hall, so he wrote "I found this ----> in my soup" and tacked it up with the thumbtack, which still had a nasty coating of soup on it. So foul!!!

(2) This one is even worse! One day, my friend went to lunch at a restaurant and ordered a salad. About halfway through the salad, she looked down and saw what she thought at first was a weird piece of lettuce. After poking it, she thought "that's strange, this lettuce has eyes...and webbed feet." Turns out that it wasn't a piece of lettuce, it was a DEAD FROG! She jumped up from the table and screamed in the middle of the restaurant, "Oh my god, there is a dead frog in my salad!" before running to the bathroom and throwing up the rest of the salad she had just eaten. She came back and showed it to her waiter and had to ask for her money back (he wasn't going to give it to her at first). The waiter told her that they had just opened up the bag of salad that they used for her's, so who knows how long that dead frog was sitting in that bag of lettuce. Also, she's in law school, so she had a lawyer friend of one of her professors write to the restaurant to see if she could get anything else out of them, but she never heard back from them. My friend loves frogs (has stuffed frogs and frog figurines and frog pictures all over her apartment), and one of her favorite foods is salad, which makes this story even more unfortunate. She didn't eat for about 3 days afterwards and it took her months to be able to eat salads again, but she has to thoroughly examine it before she eats it.
