We all know that won't happen because these schools won't cut off $$$$ they can derive from athletics. It happens a lot out here in Cali, the place where Prop. 209 passed in 1996.
The situation is slightly different for private universities such as USC, my alma mater, BTW.
A few weeks ago, the
Los Angeles Times did an article about black athletes that contained this unsurprising but mildly startling statistic: a majority of black male students at Division I universities are jocks. What kind of mixed message does that send to our young men -- the only way you can get NEAR a university is balling?
