I think KappaKittyCat said it best in her thoughts on so-called "GDIs." As for my school, there are a lot of non-affiliated students, guys and girls, who still take advantage of what the Greek system has to offer, but that's not always a bad thing. I have a lot of friends who proclaim themselves as being GDIs, but they have nothing against most of the fraternity members and sorority members that respect them as they would other Greeks (did that make sense)? Two of my greatest girlfriends that I've been in college are self-proclaimed GDIs. Both have lived with Greeks, and both have seen Greek life at its best and worst. One now lives with two fraternity members and the other lives with her affiliated boyfriend and both are basically just part of our little gang of people that hangs out together... that includes more than just one fraternity and one sorority, also. I love it how at my campus, your letters don't really determine your friends... my typical group of friends includes Gamma Phis, Kappas, a Pi Phi or two, AXOs, sometimes a Sig Kap or two, Delts, a lone KA, and sometimes a few ATOs... and of course, our dozens of Greek-loving GDIs, who are independent for a number of reasons but they still love us all the same! We all get along just fine and that's how we like it...
Ok, enough rambling... I'm just bored at work. I love the GDIs that I know because most of them aren't Greek for one legit reason or another. And they may not like the Greek system or the concept of fraternities and sororities in general, but they don't disrespect individuals just because they're a part of the Greek system, which is the mature way to go.
