I was all prepared for major pain when I had my first one done but I was nothing. Yeah it hurt a bit and it was over the bone. It only took 20 minutes to complete so in reality it was nothing.

I have nothing to compare it to, only having one, so I wasn't sure if it was just a rumor. At the time I was getting mine, I didn't want to ask and end up wussing out.
I'm a bit jealous of the 20 minute thing - mine took an hour and a half and I had to take a break towards the end so the artist could rest up a bit. Going back in that room was not easy once I had a break from the needle, but I also didn't want a tattoo that was half done.
Maybe the black hurting more thing has to do with outlining - I know the outline and any small details hurt a lot more than where anything was filled in. Who knows. I was too embarrassed to pay attention to the pain - my tattoo guy was cute and my butt was completely hanging out the whole time. Oh well.
