If you can manage to find a sitter, bring your husband! I'm sure it would be fun for him and you would probably be more relaxed. However, if he can't go, absolutely GO and have a great time!!! It's totally normal to be nervous -- I was SO nervous before my first alumnae activity -- it was a Founders' Day brunch at a ritzy restaurant, with three alumnae chapters in attendance and I did not know a SOUL. One woman sort of took me under her wing from the start, and I didn't stand alone or feel awkward for one second! You will probably have a wonderful time! I'm sure it won't happen, but look at it this way: if they don't make you feel comfortable and welcome, maybe it's not the group for you, you know -- and it would be better to find that out right away, right?
Of course, I'm sure they will be friendly and wonderful and will do their best to make you feel comfortable. You know, it makes me think, as alumnae initiation becomes more popular -- wouldn't it be great if chapters had a sort of "big sister" who would be in charge of welcoming and introducing potential alumnae initiates at their first activities? That would be cool!
What are you going to wear? I love hearing about clothes...
