i can only tell you about UPS restrictions (that's where i work - specifically with international packages)

for gift shipments, the packages may be wrapped, but must be placed in an "outer box" that can allow for shipping stickers and labels to be placed on the box.

also, specifically for canada - a shipment may be labeled 'gift' if each of the contents is valued under 60 dollars (US) this will be shown on the invoice that must be inclosed with each shipment descibing in detail the contents of the package.
