Greek Issues (WARNING: The gloves are coming off!)
OK, here are the Greek issues:
For all those oldheads and traditionalists, you may want to leave now.
Here is what I believe:
Greeks should stop brooding and boasting what their founders or other brother/sister did 80-90 years ago and focus more on what THEY are doing here and NOW!
The NPHC should be disbanded and the orgs should join NIC or NPC. As it is, I see more divisiveness, arrogance, and disunity than unity and harmony.
The NPHC should stop calling themselves "The Divine Nine". I will NEVER refer to the NPHC as such.
Any Greek caught resorting to physical violence on a perp should be charged with 1st degree assault and their chapter charter revoked.
Greeks should lower their profile if they want to get good quality members (that means no stepping/party-walking, no decorative 'nalia, no signs or calls). Just plain t-shirts and jackets with the letters and community service activities. Prospectives IMHO are MUCH more likely to join for the right reasons.
There should be a book, course, or seminar for prospectives on Black Greek life: what it is and isn't, terminology, what it's all about, and that highly revered "D" word. A Black Greek "From Here to Fraternity" if you will. Lawrence Ross, I think you are on to something.
AND MOST IMPORTANTLY,
The hazing/pledging issues discussed recently will not have any real meaning or effect until one of the NPHC orgs goes bankrupt and folds. I have been told by more than a few Greeks that it will occur by the year 2010. While I do not wish or hope that will be the case for any org, if that is what it will take before the NPHC will know that the victims' parents, the universities, and the legal system mean business, so be it.
BTW, I am NOT anti-NPHC, I am anti-nonsense and foolishness, and I have seen WAY too much of both in my college and post-graduate years.
