Could it be that they did this as a Reform Jewish wedding ceremony, or would all of what you said still be applicable? Just curious. I've dated a fair share of Jewish men, all Reform Jews, and never in the conversations about marriage did the formality of it all come up.

So, since I hope to actually marry a Jewish man (don't ask, LONG story), I'd really like to know... THANKS!
