HC...WHAT YEAR IS IT????

HC I got a story....

HC I was at work last night and I was standing at the nurse's station finishing up some paperwork...there were two nurses sitting there and they were talking about why this particular doctor didn't like one of them...

HC one of the nurses told the other nurse, "Maybe it's because I am black!"

HC since both of these nurses are as white as notebook paper, I looked up like

HC the other nurse was like "Yeah 'savvydiva', you didn't know that Lorna Bell (yes, that's her name), was black? SO I am like "Black...where?" And Lorna Bell was like "I'm Black!"

HC I wasn't even in the mood so I was like whatever and walked away...like two hours later, I had to go back over for something else and they were laughing about some joke that I don't even remember now.

HC I was like "Everytime I come to the nurses station, I hear something crazy...ya'll are silly...last time I walked up, Lorna Bell was saying she was Black!" So Robyn, the other nurse says, "Well you want to know where that came from?"

HC I said yes... so HC Robyn proceeds to tell me that at their last evaluation, their supervisor (mind you RObyn in the charge nurse, so it had to be one of the nurse managers), told them that she had received 'complaints' from some of the doctors that see their patients in the ER that her and Lorna Bell act "too Black!"

HC ALL THE COLOR drained out of my face and I am like WTF!!!

HC I am like "WHat the hell is "acting black", what was she trying to say?" So Robyn tries to clean it up and is like "I know", "Maybe she was just trying to say that we are too loud or something, I don't know"

HC I am like NO, if that's the case she was wrong!

HC I couldn't even say anything I was just too hurt, too offended, too angry, and confused...so I just did what I had to do and left.

HC these people don't realize that saying that one is loud, boisterous, uncouth, ghetto, unprofessional, rude, lazy, etc....is not interchangeable with saying that one "acts black?"

HC I am new at this hospital and I get commended DAILY about how professional I am, about my bedside manner with patients, about my ability to 'mesh' with everybody...so if I understand her supervisor correctly...she doesn't want them to act like ME? OH, or do you mean...the "other" black people? WHAT THE HELL!!!!

HC I am REALLY debating whether or not to take this matter to administration, on my shift I am the ONLY black person there, and I felt like immediately after me leaving the vicinity they were all probably talking about me! This makes me feel uncomfortable...and what REALLY makes me feel uncomfortable is that it came from a SUPERVISOR!!!

HC like I said I am new at this hospital, and I don't want to be seen as the one making waves, but I really felt that comment was out of line, UNFOUNDED, and just plain racially insensitive!

HC you know ya'll need to give me advice!!!

HC my life is so interesting???
