Name your GLO
Phi Beta Fraternity: National Association for the Creative and Performing Arts
Describe your badge and new member pin
Our badge is a gold
F super-imposed upon an engraved
B. The phi can be plain gold or be set with pearls. Here are the three styles:
The pledge pin is a small gold
F
Where can you wear your badge? (does it have to be over the heart, is a suit jacket ok or does it have to be on the blouse/shirt, if you're wearing other pins (like an Order of Omega pin) do they have to be below your badge, etc)
Over the heart with no other badges/pins above it. (Below is okay, though). I've casually looked for something that states what *type* of clothing it can/cannot be worn with, but I haven't found anything. I've never seen anyone wear it when they weren't dressed up.
Do you require new members to wear their pins at all times?
Technically, no. We can't. Although we used to and now it's
highly encouraged by most chapters. Most of the new members wear them all of the time anyways, though. The biggest thing is they can't get "punished" for not having it on.
Can you attach anything to your badge? (chapter guard, etc)
Yep, chapter guards or officer guards. All of the members I've seen with guards have chapter guards and then officer dangles if those apply to them. I have a chapter guard, but no dangles.
Can you use a badge buddy?
This thread is the first I've heard of them. Some of my friends were recently joking about how many pins some of our more senior members (nationally) have. This might actually be useful for a few of them!
Can you make your badge into a pendant or ring?
No. I think it would be really cool if you could make the pledge pins into a ring after you're initiated, but those are given back to the chapter.
What other official jewelry does your GLO have? (president's ring, award pins, mother's/father's pins, sweetheart pins, etc)
The other piece of official jewelry that anyone can order is our allied arts design. It can be a stickpin or pendant. I want to get the pendant, but haven't yet. Here's a pic:
As far as recognition, we have:
- a recognition pin (given for various things by national council) - this is the only fraternity pin that's allowed to be worn outside of the coat, according to our constitution.
- patron pin (for our patrons, of course!
)
- leadership pin (awarded to collegiates by national council)
- honor brooch (for service to the fraternity on national council)
- rose pin (our highes professional award).
I would love it if we had mothers/fathers pins. My mom especially wears pins all of the time, so I know she would be excited about it. There's probably more jewelry that I'm forgetting, but those are the big ones and most common.
