You know, I thought this topic might stir some trouble, suprisingly however, I think we all pretty much think alike on this topic. I feel it to be disrespectful to letters and that drinking while having them on puts a negative image out there. It doesn't matter if you're having champaine or beer, 'someone' out there will distort that image into something bad, and we all know that it only takes one person to do harm to our names and reputations. One thing that also bothers me, I've seen sororities and fraternities wearing letters and drinking around prospective members. That is bad news. Even if it's just one or two members out there wearing the letters and they are the only two people from the organization in the bar/restruant, wearing letters IMO is an advertisement saying "hey look at me, I'm a DZ, I'm a representative." Nobody thinks anything about the person wearing a plain t-shirt who gets drunk, but you see someone wearing letters and is drunk, that association is there, that person is representing your organization and despite the fact that they are an individual, wearing those letters makes people 'think' of your group, and that makes them wonder. . . is this what sorority/fraternity life is about? Is this the type of person I want to associate with? Are 'all' the sisters/brothers like this? Those are all questions that you want POSITIVE answers to. If you think "well, we don't want them if they are going to jump to conclusions" then you should think again. No matter what, first impressions are the strongest. You want prospectives especially to see 'what' your chapter is about before they see all the 'fun' stuff that goes on 'after' the work is done. If all they see is the 'fun' stuff, that will either attract them for the wrong reasons, or push them away because of the impressions they recieved in the begining. I know y'all know this stuff, but just thought I'd put in my 2 cents.
