A couple of people (one admin, one student, both social greeks/
alums) were concerned with the "social frat/soror aspect,"
esp. pledging, the wearing of pledge pins, etc. I think we
allayed their fears, and hope that social greeks will be
involved (good chance a Lambda Chi will be a leader of
the organizing group).
Like the Centre College APO chapter,
we may find a different word to using instead of "pledge"
and "pledging"...Centre uses "Pillar" (should start with 'P'
to explain the 'P' on the badge)...my idea is "Philantropos",
Greek for "Lover of men/humanity/your-neighbor".
The administration (Dean of Students, Director of Volunteer
Activities, including GIVE) are all on-board with APO at GC.
In fact, we're expecting students involved in the GIVE program
to form a core APO group. GIVE is basically just a list of
community organizations that want student volunteers....
the Dir. of Vol. Act. simply matches interested students with
opportunities (GIVE isn't an organization or anything.)
Thanks for the response.
