Hypoallergenic Cats

I tell you man, technology is going to be the death of us. I guess I'll have to read up on this to figure out what's really going on.
And on the 2,103,495th day, God created hypoallergenic cats

There was a story on NPR a while back about a company whose researchers have identified the gene in cats that creates the protein that 90% of people allergic to cats are reacting to. They are working on genetically engineering cats in which that gene is deactivated. Once they have enough cats, they will breed them the old fashioned way, keep some for breeding, and sell the rest (neutered, of course).

Here's a short blurb: http://search.npr.org/cf/cmn/segment...m?segID=125119

There are also breeds that are less likely to cause an allergic reaction, and I've heard that you can build up a resistance to one cat if you get it as a kitten.
