I am suspicious of these charges and inclined to give AKA the benefit of the doubt for the time being at least.
Police departments are generally not reluctant to charge a fraternity or sorority with hazing -- especially when fatalities are involved. The LAPD has apparantely found no reason to suspect hazing. Had the women really had their hands tied, I would think there would be evidence of that -- ropes and other devices leave marks.
The news stories have played it very straight.
For some reason I can't really explain, this doesn't smell like a hazing incident to me -- just a tragic accident or mistake.
