your level of involvement on the college campus could make a difference in your case, since you've already been around for 2 or 3 years. you've had plenty of time to "make your mark." if you've been at school that long, and have not gotten even a bit involved, the sorority might think it's unlikely that you'd devote a lot of time to getting involved in the group's projects.
the biggest factor is usually the girl's personality and maybe also reputation. we'd rather have the less-involved girl who everyone loves than take someone who's super-involved but much less likeable. looks can be a factor but usually in a subconscious, background sort of way. my house (which is considered one of the "good" ones on campus) absolutely won't sit down during meetings and pick apart a girl's looks and clothes. if she's cute, we might say "she's cute" but that's about it. other groups DO discuss things like a girl's weight.
i could see your grades being a problem, especially since you're not a first-year student. i don't know if there's anything you can do about that now, but you should just know in advance that if you're cut, that could be a major reason why. think about it this way... i'm SURE the sororities on your campus have average GPA's that are a lot higher than yours. keeping the house GPA high is actually a big deal (sororities are competitive and GPA's are usually ranked after each term) and nationals gets on their back when it slips. they're not doing themselves any favors by taking someone with low grades.
