I have 2 great rush memories, one as a rushee and one as an active.
When I was a rushee, I lived in a suite and all my suitemates wanted(and were pretty much guranteed--a lot of girls from their hometown were in this one)sorority XYZ and I thought I did too, because my suitemates were really the only girls I knew. But when I went through rush, I always really liked AOTT. During second round, I was dropped by sorority XYZ, and was heartbroken. But I went back, preffed AOTT(and another sorority) and realized I felt pretty good there. But what made me realize how right it could be was when I walked into the house on bid day and there was this MASSIVE sign that read "Welcome Home" and one of the older sisters looked at me and said " Get ready for the most amazing 4 years of your life". I knew I had a place to go on Friday nights when I didn't want to party hard, 150 new friends to call when I had a bad day, and an amazing sisterhood that would last forever. That was a great feeling!
My second one involves being an active. I already had a little sister, but she had gone inactive, and as a senior, I thought my sorority family was going to die. But then a good friend told me about a girl he knew who was a freshman who was going through rush and who I had to meet, because she reminded him of me, 4 years ago. The minute I met this girl, I LOVED her. She was so much fun, so sweet, and wonderful. She kept coming back to us, and coming back and finally, at pref, I preffed her and was so nervous that she would go somewhere else. But when she came flying through our doors on bid day, we were both sobbing and hugging and just laughing. She is now my second little sister and I have NEVER regretted taking another one so late.
So, see ladies, both rushee's and actives--rush is nerve wracking, scary, emotional, exhirlertaing(sp?), fun, and sad--but in the end, when you get that girl, or you find that place, it is all worth it. Just find that place you can call home and that girl that when she runs through the door, you are so happy you cry!!
