Well, I am back! This morning was the PNM convocation, where we met our RC's, listened to 3 speakers, learned a little bit about rush, and got into our rush groups. There are 328 PNM's signed up for rush, but only about 200 or so showed up. That's unfortunate for the sororities, but I hope it works to my advantage! After we met our groups, we all went our separate ways, and we met back up an hour later to go to the first 3 parties of round 1. I'm tempted to say which sororities I went to, but I'll wait until prefs to use names. OH, and I wore the outfit with the pencil skirt and cream-colored top in case you were wondering.
House 1: When the RC's knocked on the door I thought I might go deaf! These girls were clapping, singing, and cheering so loudly and were SO enthusiastic. They were all wearing their letters, but some had t-shirts, some had sweatshirts, and they all had different colors on, so it wasn't exactly uniform. I walked in and one sister sat me down and I started talking to her. She was nice, but there were a few pauses in the conversation. Another sister came over a few minutes later and took me across the room to sit and talk with her. She was nice and we had a good conversation, but a few times I'd be talking about something and she'd interrupt me to introduce me to another sister. After that I went on a house tour with another sister, and we talked more about the sorority. Then we went back to the living room and they had cheese, crackers, and fruit for us to eat and Shirley Temples to drink. I sat and talked with yet another sister, and we watched a video. I wasn't too sure about that video because it seemed pretty similar to the house tour I'd just been on...basically it just followed one woman through the house and talked to some of the sisters about different things they do in the house. When we left there was more loud clapping and cheering. I'm not really sure if I could see myself in this house. The girls were very nice, but I didn't click with any of them especially well, and I met a lot of the sisters. The conversations were kind of uncomfortable and forced, and I only talked about the sorority with these women and not about little random fun things which would have made things easier. Overall, they didn't do anything that really impressed me and made me say "wow!" But I wouldn't be completely against giving them another chance in round 2.
House 2: The first thing I noticed about the sisters in this house was that they are all absolutely gorgeous. They all had matching shirts with their letters and colors, and they looked just perfect. That intimidated me a little bit! But once I started talking to them, they were so sweet and friendly that I felt a lot better! It was kind of a coincidence because I got a house tour from 2 girls, and one is my suitemate! So it was comfortable, and we had things to talk about since we already know each other. The first thing we did was the house tour, and that was fun. The house is really pretty, and the sisters all really made an effort to come up and introduce themselves to me. At one point two sisters actually were "fighting" (playfully of course) over who got to say hi to me next! It was cute, and I was flattered. We went into the living room after the tour to watch a slideshow, and they had cookies, chips, and iced tea for us. I didn't even pay that much attention to the slideshow because I was too busy talking to the girl who rushed me! We talked about summer vacations, spring break, and the hot guys at the gym. Conversation flowed easily, and I felt comfortable. I really like this house and I hope I get invited back, but it's one of those houses that everyone wants so if I get cut, I'll understand. I did make sure to tell the woman rushing me that I'd had a great time at the house.
House 3: I was also taken on a house tour by 2 sisters in this house. They were really cool and REALLY laid back. They joked around with me and with each other, and we never ran out of things to talk about. Some of the other sisters introduced themselves during the tour, but not as many as in house 2. They all looked cute in black shirts with their letters in rhinestones, and blue jeans. The word I'd use to best describe the personality of the sisters I met in this house is "real." They didn't seem at all superficial or fake, but they seemed genuinely interested in getting to know us and giving us all the information they could about their sorority. They also seemed like really nice, fun girls who like to just goof off and have a good time. After the house tour we sat in the kitchen to watch the video, and they had cookies, lemonade, and water for us. The video was cute, but the sound quality wasn't the greatest so at some points I had trouble hearing. We got to talk a little more after the video, and I was sitting at a table with about 5 or 6 sisters. There were definitely more sisters than PNM's at all the parties! I was a little intimidated by this at first, but they were all nice so that helped me relax. We talked about classes and about the clubs up in Providence. I was very comfortable in this house, and I think I have a good chance of getting invited back.
So right now I really like houses 2 and 3 and would love to go back to both. I don't know which one I liked more. I'm not too excited about house 1, but I am willing to give them another chance if they invite me back.
Tomorrow I am going to the house that my roommate's teammate is in!! I'm a little nervous about that, but I'm going to approach it as though I don't know anything about it and put my best face forward. After all, it would be pretty funny if her sisters ended up loving me and inviting me back.
Well I will be sure to keep you all posted on how things go, and definitely tell me if there's anything else you want to know!
