(I hate to rehash this thread..but...)
I don't think it makes a difference that the people who did this were Greek, in the way the case was publicized. Something like this would have been written up somewhere no matter who the perps were, at least AP would have covered it, if not USA Today.
As for campus crimes, our local and university papers cover attacks extensively, regardless of whether they were committed by a member of a Greek organization or another person. And there have been a lot of attacks going on lately, for varying reasons (mostly biased)
Also, if one or two members of a Greek group did something, I don't imagine that the entire chapter would be ostracized and their charter reviewed/revoked. This situation involved nearly, if not the entire, fraternity, from my understanding. If any group, be it the band or the honor society, or whatever, all got together and did something cruel/inhumane and/or illegal, I strongly think the group would be punished as severely as this fraternity.
As for the pig.. WAHHHHHHHHHH.. pigs are my favourite animals, and I'm a huge animal lover/animal welfare advocate
